life's Better Out Here!
I had a chance to look at my out-of-doors, sport specific workout. The weather still is not good enough to start training outside, but checking out some of my equipment made me hungry to be outside training. I have found that strength outside and strength inside don't always relate. for example; I am 6'4" tall, have an 84" arm span, and a 36" inseam. These measurements do not add up to a lot of impressive power in the weight room. Don't get me wrong, there have been some impressive big men in the history of power lifting. I am just not personally interested in the weights. Actually I struggle on the basic power lifts like the squat, bench press, dead lift, and clean and jerk. But when I take what I have spent the winter building in the weight room outside to train it translates to much more. The farmer's walk and the odd object lift use a squat, dead lift, and shrug together. The tire flip uses a power clean movement. The truck pull combines the movement of a power push with a front row. Strongman has more to do with being balanced physically. Weight training is the muscle group specific foundation for the overall unity of body required to compete. I am in no way putting down power lifting! Anyone who is into power lifting and is competitive I applaud you. Power lifting is a great sport. All I am saying is it just hasn't worked out for me, and I will be glad to get to the kind of training I enjoy the most.
