Week Three of Strongman 2010

I have just finished up week three of my new training schedule and I am beginning to see progress. I am through the most difficult part as far as the initial pain and soreness. Alan is doing very well. He has picked up on weight training very quickly and has near perfect form from the start. I think he is a natural for this. You can't beat his enthusiasm either. He is also a great spotter and he is learning the art of encouraging and pushing his partner.

At the start of our program I was a little discouraged because my bench and squats needed so much work. As I said in earlier posts I have been without a squat rack for quite a long time; and I haven't had a consistent partner to help with spotting so I could really push myself. Things were kind of slow starting. A friend offered some encouragement to me. He said that I had performed well at the novice level without much proper training so anything I do consistently is only going to make me better. That helped to get my mind off of what I couldn't do and on to making some progress.

I still have so much improving to do. I haven't maxed squats yet. I want to wait a couple more weeks to be sure I will not injure myself. As for the bench, I maxed three weeks ago, but it was kind of on a whim and I didn't warm up well. Excuses aside I could only bench 265 1rm. WEAK! Now I think i would bee much closer to 300. I think Alan and I are going to max bench, squats, and deadlift on the same week in a couple of weeks. I want us to be use to lifting and in something of a rhythm before we try to kill ourselves maxing out.
