Ahh, sweet rest

Today I took a snow day. I had to work until about 1:00pm, but the rest of the day I just stayed home and relaxed. Well, as much relaxing as one can do with four active kiddos in the house. it snowed about six inches here today so other than working we weren't planning to go anywhere. My beautiful wife baked Christmas goodies all day; my kids played and decorated cookies; and I made the meals, relaxed, and watched the perfect white snow. I hope to do a little snowshoeing tomorrow after church. I may need to go into the shop for a little while, but other than that I plan on getting out into God's beautiful creation and enjoying that fresh powder.

Snowshoeing is a great cardio workout. It's hard for me to get motivated to do a lot of running and what have you, but I love getting out in the snow an trudging along some trail or across the frozen lake. It is also an unconventional form of exercise. a person can't go for a run through a swamp or hike across the lake during the summer, but in the winter time you can go a lot of places you can't in the summer. I love the scenery from the lake: evergreens with their boughs weighed down with snow; everything wrapped in a fresh, white blanket; smoke swirling out of the chimneys of lakeside homes; and the clean, crisp, fresh air. I love it!
