Strongman Connection

Yesterday I recieved an email from a true strongman, Chris Drost. Chris took second in the middleweight class at the 2008 Minnesota State Strongman Championships in St Cloud, MN. Chris organizes the Haugen Strongman event every August. I contacted Chris a week or so ago just to get some information. He replied with some good info and an invitation to train with him later this fall if it would work out. I was extatic about that! Even if it doesn't pan out to train together I feel I have a great contact in the sport from which to draw info on a wide range of topics related to the sport.

Chris, if you stop by my blog, thanks!

Pre-competition rest - Yeah Right!

I said the other day that I was going to practice, stay loose and rest. Well so far one out of two isn't so good. This week has not been a very good one for getting rest. Tuesday night we had a fussy baby which lead to about five hours of sleep. Last night my little boy was sick all night and I got three hours of sleep. I decided to cut back my hours to fifty this week so I could rest up for Saturday. Well, I needed to cut back at work so that I could deal with the extra load at home this week I guess. The boy is doing some better so I am planning a short work day tomorrow and then just taking it easy and prepping for Haugen.

If anyone has any natural, safe energy boosting suggestions I may need one on Saturday!

Adjust, refocus, and dig in.

My strategy has had to change somewhat due to scheduling conflicts. The high school gym I was using is not going to be open the hours I would be able to work out. That posed a real problem for me since we don't have another facility close by, or so I thought. Turns out there is a new small facility a quarter mile from my shop and it is open 24/7. I joined last Thursday and was in there today. It doesn't have everything, but it will cover what I need until the weather breaks and I can start training outside. I am amazed how God works out even these kinds of seemingly insignificant details .

If there is anyone who stops by the blog on occasion, stand by for some training video clips in the near future.
