Training Begins!

Training for strongman events began in earnest on February 11. My time in a proper weight room is limited, but I didn't think I would get any time at all. I also have a friend who is helping to coach me. He is very technical and I am thankful for the instruction.

Last week was a difficult week. Starting out is always difficult. It has been some time since I have trained this hard, ecspecially my lower body. Wednesday the 13th was leg day. Lets just say I am glad I can walk without pain today because tomorrow is leg day again! I will be on my own without my coach. I hope I still push myself.

Part of this training regimen is a new diet. I didn,t realize how much work researching the proper diet is. When I was in college you just tried to eat as much protien as possible. I had no idea about macronutrient ratios, and calories per gram of whatever. Now I need to know all of that stuff because the muscle doesn't recover a quickly as it did ten years ago and the fat doesn't burn off as easily. It has been a good learning experience.

It is good to have a plan and follow it! I didn't realize how many of the proper calories I would need to be able to perform at peak efficiency. I hope it starts to pay off in a week or two. I also hope my other trainig plans pay off soon. I am eager to get on to the real weight. Relearning the form and mechanics is good, but I feel like such a beginner.
