About Big Lifts

I was thinking about big lifts. One of the most powerful and most impressive lifts is the deadlift. This lift can make or break a competition. This lift is also a weakness of mine which I have to improve upon for future competitions.
Last night after I posted I made sure the kids were all settled in bed and went down stairs to practice deadlifting. I am guessing that Saturday we will have to do a Fat-bar deadlift for reps. Last years competition was the first time I had ever perfomed a deadlift. Over the past year I haven't dedicated much training time to deadlifting either. I have been practicing hoping that I will at least be competative in that event and rely on my better events to carry me over.
Continuing on, I started warming up and then put on the mandatory 250#. I did a couple sets with that and felt really good so I went to 300# and did a few reps. I inceased to 350# just to see how it felt. I did one rep and stopped there. Thinking about it later I should have done a couple more.
I know that a 350# deadlift isn't that impressive, but I was happy with a 350#, 24" deadlift when I haven't been working on that excercise at all. My hope is that I can find a training partner and make '08-'09 a year of big lifts
