Shaking things up

Well, it is almost crunch time. I have three days to practice, stretch and rest. It has been a busy few weeks and I haven't been keeping myself a loose as I should so I decided to focus on practicing the events, keeping myself stretched and loose, and trying to get good rest at night. I am glad the heat and humidity is finally starting to break. Working everyday in it really zaps your strength and energy.

Speaking of energy, I discovered something sort of by accident. I was researching sports supplements and nutrition one evening a couple of weeks ago and decided to experiment with some natural protein shakes. I found a combination that seems to be working for me.
The recipe is as follows: 2 cups skim milk, 2 large bananas, 2 tbls peanut butter, and one protein bar ( I use a Power Bar). Throw it all in a blender and mix until its smooth. This shake has about 40-45g of protein and just over 800 calories. And it costs $2.65 per 24oz shake. A high quality protein shake mixed with water will cast around $3.75. At three shakes a day that $1.10 adds up. Right now it seems to be working for me. My energy is up and my strength gains have been on track. Next spring I will probably go to a Muscle Milk and creatine routine, but I found it interesting to experiment a little, and of the ingredients are pretty natural.

So, if any of this interests you, you can find me in Haugen, Wisconsin on Saturday August 9, 2008 from 11:30am antil 3:00 pm at my first and last strongman competition of 2008.

Hope to see you there!
