The third goal of training for strongman is that I want to gain knowledge and experience that can be put to use practically in helping others succeed athletically. I have been learning a lot, especially in the area of nutrition. I frequently do research on my training questions which has helped me to learn for myself how nutrition works in the body rather that just follow some one's prescribed plan. I have a little difficulty organizing the information mainly due to time, but I am compiling info to organize for better use in the future.
I am trying to make better use of nutrition and supplementation to help me perform better. I am seeing it beginning to come together. I have used a lot of experimentation with diet and supplements to find a combination that works for me. It seems as though I am getting closer to understanding what works best and then formulating a plan to optimize the nutrition. I hope to reach that point soon and see the research pay huge dividends.
As for weight training information I am constantly learning there as well. There is so much out there, some of it hype and some of it truly revolutionary. What I am finding out is that there is no substitute for good ol' discipline and hard work. If anyone wants to get into better shape and be healthier all they have to do is research a basic training regimen and stick to it. As you learn more you can tweak it as you go along. the point is to just decide on something simple and do it on a regular schedule. Discipline is the key.
There is a lot of information out there and I enjoy learning more about fitness. I would like to become a certified fitness trainer in the near future. Anyone with common sense knows that a license or a cert does not make someone an expert, but the general public believes that it means something. Right now I am effectively training my lifting partner without any formal certification and things are progressing very well. I suppose you do what it takes to be taken seriously.
