I know I haven't been posting, but no body's looking at this anyway! Hopefully someone will stop by from time to time.
My update is that on August 11, 2007 I entered my first strongman event and took first place! It was a small local event, but it was put together well by a couple of experienced strongmen. I'll spare everyone the details except to say that it was easier for me than I expected. The competition was good and the events extremely challenging for a novice, but things really went well for me on that day. Maybe beginners luck!
My agenda: The plan now is to Loose a few pounds by January and really hit the heavy training then. I am training right now, but I am doing a lot of experimenting to find out what works best for me. I know that my leg strength is a weak point for me. I am already working on that. Other things will come as I get things figured out this fall.
I am also studying. That's right, studying! Knowledge is power and learning and knowing the events, techniques, and training regimens is going to be the lynch pin by which everything holds together or comes flying apart. I also want to be able to use what I learn from this experience to help other people who may need some help with their sport training. My studies will not be limited to strongman and power lifting. I would like to be of help to younger, high school athletes looking to hone their skills and bodies to perform at optimum levels.
Studying myself is also key. I have been relearning my own physiology and psychology as well. Self-knowledge is a key to success. An athlete must know his strengths and weaknesses and how to build on the strengths and improve the weaknesses. I have also been learning about the importance of sports psychology. Routines, visualization, positive thought process, all of these and more play a role in an athletes success.
There is much to think about as I experience this new path. I am not sure where it will lead but I know God has a plan and it will work out for good.
